Theresa Squatrito is a postdoc research fellow at the Department of Political Science at Stockholm University and is funded by Transdemos research program, which explores transnational actors in relation to questions on global democratic governance. She received her PhD from the University of Washington, Seattle in political science and she was a fellow with the Comparative Law and Society Studies Center. Her dissertation was titled: “European Law and the Politics of Domestic Internalization: Civil Society and Mobilization of European Anti-discrimination Law”.

Research interests

My research interests and current research projects explore issues relating to international organizations and law, with emphasis on civil society. As a part of the Transdemos research program, I am involved in collaborative research on transnational actors’ access to international organizations, where we seek to map, trace and explain why international organizations open up to transnational actors. My doctoral research also focused on civil society actors and international institutions. Specifically, my doctoral dissertation explored international legal institutions alongside civil society’s use of international law to bring domestic policy reforms in Europe. I am currently working on a book manuscript based on this research.
