Engelbrekt’s most recent major publication is Russia and Europe: Building Bridges, Digging Trenches (London: Routledge, 2010), co-authored and co-edited with Bertil Nygren, analyzing the potential for partnership and conflict between Russia and the European Union in the medium- to long-term. In a Swedish-language volume also published in 2010, Engelbrekt and Jan Ångström co-wrote and co-edited Svensk säkerhetspolitik i Europa och världen [Swedish Security Policy in Europe and the World at Large] (Stockholm: Norstedts Juridik, 2010). Both volumes included chapters by several other authors.
With the 2011 publication of “EU Enlargement and the Emboldening of Institutional Integrity in Central and Eastern Europe: The ‘Tough Test’ of Public Procurement,” in European Law Journal, Engelbrekt has wrapped up a project examining the expansion of European Union laws, rules and norms to the accession countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Previous publications in this area are: ”The Impact of Enlargement on Institutional Integrity in Central and Eastern Europe”, in Perspectives on European Politics and Society, 2009, and “Bulgaria’s EU Accession and the Issue of Accountability: An End to Buck-Passing?” in Problems of Post-Communism, 2007.
During 2011 Engelbrekt will work on the evolving relations between Asia’s three ‘giants’—China, India and Japan—and the European Union. He will also continue studying the growing impact of a more ‘polycentric’ international system on the diplomatic practice of great powers in international institutions, as well as on relationship between such powers and diaspora communities.
Engelbrekt spent the 2010 fall semester as Visiting Scholar to Columbia University/Harriman Institute in New York, but is now back at Stockholm University and the Swedish National Defense College.
