Academic CV Joakim Kreutz (51 Kb)

’m an Assistant Senior Lecturer at Stockholm University’s Department of Political Science, and part of the core research group at Uppsala University’s East Asian Peace Program. I am also an affiliated researcher at the Swedish Institute for International Affairs (Utrikespolitiska institutet).

My research is primarily focused on the puzzle why individuals, communities, and states at times resort to violence for political aims, and why they at other times do not. In particular, I am interested in the different local behavioral trajectories that can be identified in contentious politics. I mainly study these issues through statistical analysis where I also at times have been involved in the data collecting process, either in the form of a global analysis or for disaggregated subsets. For the latter, my case study expertize comes from the regions of East Asia (particularly Burma/Myanmar) and Latin America (mainly Colombia) but I have been involved as a co-author  for studies on other parts of the world as well.

I have been at Stockholm University since September 2015. Before that, I spent many years at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University; first as a project coordinator and coder for the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP), then as a Ph D student until 2012, and thereafter as a post-doctoral researcher.
