Global and Regional Governance is one of the Stockholm University’s areas of leading research. It encompasses about 20 junior and senior researchers at the Department of Political Science. The group is well established as a leading national and international environment for research on global and regional governance.

Thematically, the research of the group addresses the sources, forms, and consequences of global and regional governance, including issues of power, democracy, legitimacy, and effectiveness. Empirically, the research of the group spans multiple policy areas, including trade, finance, security, human rights, environmental policy, and regional integration. Methodologically, the research of the group is distinguished by its comparative orientation, its contribution to both positive and normative research, and its combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. The research of the group is to a large extent funded through external grants from, for instance, the European Research Council, the Swedish Research Council, Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, Formas, and NordForsk.
